NewsDate: Nov 12, 2008 Lyons leads Vipers over Flyers 1-0Vipers post second straight shutout Connor Lyons stopped all 35 shots faced to earn his first shutout as a LaSalle Viper and lead his team past the Leamington Flyers 1-0 on Wednesday in front of 1093 spectators at the Vollmer Rec Centre in LaSalle. With his second career shutout, Lyons (W, 10-9-1) gave the Vipers back-to-back shutouts in their last two games. On Sunday, rookie netminder Clayton Brown notched his second shutout of the season, making 31 saves in a 5-0 win at St. Thomas. Lyons (pictured) is now 3-4-0 as a Viper since being obtained in a trade from the Elmira Sugar Kings last month. In his first career GOJHL appearance, Flyers goalie Kyle Andrian (L, 0-1-0) almost matched Lyons save for save, stopping 31 of 32 shots faced. Number one goaltender, Mike Morissette - who is third among GOJHL goaltenders with a 2.79 G.A.A. in 15 games - was not in the Flyers line-up as Stephen Bested was the back-up. With their third win in four games, the Vipers (11-10-2) improved their record above the .500 mark for the first time this season and moved into a tie with the Strathroy Rockets for fifth place in the GOJHL Western Conference standings, though the Vipers have played three more games. After winning seven straight to start the month of October, the Flyers (12-7-4) have just one win in their last seven games (1-3-3). Vipers rookie forward Matt Beaudoin scored his fifth goal of the season midway through the second period for the game's only goal. The goal was Beaudoin's second game-winning goal of the season. Next action for the Vipers is Sunday when they travel to Chatham to take on the Maroons, who have won 8 of nine on home ice this season. Game time at Memorial Arena is 7:00pm. The Flyers look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they host the Maroons at the Kinsmen Rec Centre with the opening face-off at 7:10 pm. |
