Player of the MonthSeptember 2009 - Offensive Player
STEPHEN SANZA GP: 7 Stephen's 15 points in the month of September were second among all Western Conference scorers and tied for 5th in the GOJHL. His nine goals were the most in the conference and tied for second in the league. He started the season in style with a 5-point effort in the Nationals' opening night 7-2 win over the Lambton Shores Predators. Stephen had two game-winning goals, as his efforts propelled the Nationals to first place in the Western Conference standings with a 5-1-1 record. Stephen is starting his second season as a National. Last season, he led his team with 34 goals, earning a selection as a Western Conference First Team All-Star. The previous season, Stephen started his GOJHL career with the Petrolia Jets (now the Lambton Shores Predators) where his 36 points led to his selection as a WOHL Rookie All-Star. Stephen will be recognized in a ceremony prior to an upcoming Nationals home game. September 2009 - Goaltender
BLAIR BENNETT GP/MP: 4/245 Blair's 1.96 GAA led all GOJHL Western Conference goaltenders for the month, and he ranks second in the league in wins (4) and save percentage (.930). The highlight of the month was a 25-save performance in the Rockets' 4-3 overtime win over the first-place Nationals on the 19th. Blair has now been named Western Conference Goaltender of the Month for two of the last three months, the other being in January 2009. In his last nine regular season games dating back to January 16 of last season, Blair is 9-0-0 with a 1.54 GAA and .944 save percentage. This is Blair's fourth GOJHL season, with all but a portion of the 2007-08 season being spent with the Rockets. He is a two-time co-recipient (2007 and 2009) of the Roy Caley Award presented to the team with the best goals against average. Blair was recognized in a ceremony prior to the Rockets home game on Saturday. |
